Drafts of first front cover and contents pages

Over the Summer holidays, after shooting most of my footage I put together initial drafts for one of my print magazines. I used the software Canva (having had difficulty accessing photoshop on home devises), and although expecting this would limit the quality of my work, I found it helpful to easily map out composition, try different colour schemes etc.
After the holidays, I showed these drafts to my teacher who informally suggested they might be made to look more sophisticated: following this, I considered how the colours currently appear too young for my target demographic, and how the typography could be changed to evoke a higher- end product.

Contact sheet- photoshoot images from camera experiments (on-site shoot)

Through undertaking a practise NEA photoshoot, I learnt the importance of framing and composition when using a camera so that downloaded images do not crop out the feet/ lower body. I also learnt to be stern and direct when asking models to position themselves otherwise we often broke out in laughter and the pictures looked awkward. Some candid shots came out well but these were best when models knew what actions to do (they just performed them naturally).

1983 context (social political and cultural)

Preparing for studying LFTV, I designed an infographic to explain key contextual details that will help me to understand the set texts and their representations.

Extracurricular: horror film webinar

After watching silence of the lambs and questioning what makes horror films so entertaining, I listened to a webinar delivered by Bangor University ‘fear and fascination- the psychology of horror movies’ from which I learnt how humans can enjoy the temporary safe stressor offered by horror films which mimic the original purpose of our survival ‘flight or fight’ response. It was interesting to consider the physiological effects of consuming media that elicits audience entertainment and increases consumption.
