After watching silence of the lambs and questioning what makes horror films so entertaining, I listened to a webinar delivered by Bangor University ‘fear and fascination- the psychology of horror movies’ from which I learnt how humans can enjoy the temporary safe stressor offered by horror films which mimic the original purpose of our survival ‘flight or fight’ response. It was interesting to consider the physiological effects of consuming media that elicits audience entertainment and increases consumption.
